Family Day 2004

 Preface

Dear Avenariae and Avenarii, dear friends,

since over 40 years the Avenarius e.V. arranges a yearly family meeting for all Avenarius-members and their descendants. Over 130 families have connected themselves to this association to attend to their relation- and friendship as well as to their ancestry research.

This year we are pleased to invite you to our family day 2004, which will take place in the fair and beautiful „Eggegebirge“ (in the south of the Teutoburger forest, which is situated in central Germany). This area is characterised by its many-sided tourist, scenic and culinary attractions.

All in all we are calculating with about 120 to 150 attendants and up to now have many registrations from Germany, the Netherlands and Russia. But the most exciting surprise will be, to see how many attendants will be there after the revision of the address files!

We are looking forward to the forthcoming family days, hoping to have aroused your interest.

For further questions, just give us a call! We will give our best to inform you as well as possible. But now, we wish you a lot of fun reading the following details.

Sincerely yours,

Sabine and Joachim

 program for friday, september 24th

After a more or less long journey it is going to be the cosiness that stands in the foreground of the upcoming weekend and especially of today’s evening. We will serve some small westphalian specialities and you will have the possibility for first ”small-talks“.

Traditional questions e.g., “who are you?“ , “in how far are we related to each other?“, ”do we know each other?“ etc. are initiatory topics of this always rich and cosy evening.

We will also offer a hot / cold buffet (of westphalian specialities) to late-arriving travelers.

 for our younger guests

There are numerous playing units in the garden of the house (e.g. goal-mouth shooting-wall) as well as a special playing room inside the house (where they can play e.g. tabletop football)

If there is enough interest/demand we will organise a cost-free child care for the youngest.

The house also has a swimming bath, where the younger ones can amuse themselves.

On friday evening there will also be a guided “night-walking-tour” (probably guided by a ranger) to the ”Externsteine”.

 program for saturday, september 25th

associates meeting

Today there will be a meeting with news from the families and the association. New members will have the possibility to intro-duce themselves.

day trip

The exact excursion-program will be completed in depend-ence of the turnout and the first feed-backs of the attendants. There will probably be two or three alternative programs e.g.:

    in good weather:
    • visit the westphalian open air museum with a horse-coach drive
    • sightseeing tour of Detmold
    • guided tour through the stately home of the baron
      in Detmold
    • visit the eagle sanctuary Berlebeck
    • visit a bird and flower - park
    • walk at the ”Hermanns-denkmal”
    • walk to the ”Externsteine” with a coffee brake

    in bad weather:
    • guided tour through the stately home of the baron in Detmold
    • visit the largest computer museum in the world in Paderborn (HNF)
    • visit the kite - museum
    • visit the Paderborn cathedral
      zu Paderborn
    • visit the thermal bath in Bad Lippspringe (as an alternative for our younger ones)
    • walk to the ”Externsteine” with coffee brake

westphalian evening / festive evening

After an adventurous and informative day, it’s again the cosiness that stands in the foreground. We have rented a hotel where we can cope with all wishes and with its numerous rooms, there are several possibilities as for example dancing or talking at the fireplace in a free and easy atmosphere.´

The younger ones also have many alternatives to enjoy themselves this evening. On the one hand they could join the child care and on the other side the playing room with its toys or go to the swimming pool.

And you can be sure that the westphalian character guarantees cosiness.

 program for sunday, september 26th

As the evening is expected to last long we will let the family day come to an end the next morning with a cosy breakfast / brunch. For all the well - rested there will be the possibility to visit further attractions of the region.

 costs of the program

With regards to the program costs we have chosen a model, which in particular offers a fixed calculation basis for families with children. We have integrated all alcohol-free, cold beverages (which are served in self-service) into an all-round price. Alcoholic and warm beverages are billed separately.
